Office chairs have been known by many
names over the years including:
Desk chair
Work chair
Secretarial chair
Computer chair
Managers chair
Executive chair
The most common term for an office chair is to call them a 'task' chair, because they are used for a variety and range of different tasks.
In recent years the market has been flooded with cheap products making it difficult to tell the good from the bad, so when a customer wants to buy a new chair, they are at a loss to know which to choose.
There are a few things you can do to ensure the chair you buy is a quality, well-made chair that will give you many years of loyal service while supporting your body properly.
1. Look at the chair's components.
The chair's shell is usually made from plastic, but some plastics are thin, cheap and will twist or warp easily. Choose a chair with solid feel and structure.
2. Check that the under-seat mechanism is robust and the foam padding is good quality. Push the foam on the seat and the back. It should feel firm and spring back quickly when you release.
3. The upholstery should be a durable, high quality fabric or leather. Wool or wool blends are best. Beware of faux or PU leather which can look and feel like the real thing, but will wear badly and tear easily.
4. To test the chair, sit and swivel around. It should not creak, groan or wobble. Check the chair's adjustment levers are not to stiff or loose. Ensure the arms are firmly attached and can be adjusted as required and make sure the gas lift works correctly. Look at what the base is made from. Some cheap plastics will bend and warp, making the chair's base unsafe and possibly dangerous.
5. Ask the retailer to provide a warranty or money back guarantee on the chair. If they wont give you a warranty, look elsewhere. If the chair is cheap, then it is probably made from cheap components and it won't last much longer than 12 months before something breaks.
NOTE: ChairPro chairs are designed and made to a high quality standard. All components have been tested and assembled with care and precision. Fabrics are Australian made and leathers used are top quality.
All chairs come with a factory warranty and if your chair mechanism or base develops a problem within the warranty period, it will be repaired free of charge.
